Click here for news archive. New Geffen Album! January 23, 2000 In case you haven't been reading the latest posts of the Discussion Forum, here is some information about the next Sonic Youth full-length album. The album is planned for release this spring -- yet it hasn't been confirmed yet -- and is called 'NYC Holy Ghosts And Flowers'. This is what Thurston said about the release in 'AP Magazine': "It's basically post ripoff Sonic. After our equipment got stolen we gathered up a few guitars here and there and hammered a bunch of nails into them and then wrote like 8 songs in one day." Then he said the new album "wasn't loud rock. More grayscale. But not rap metal." It's very much likely possible that these songs featured on the new album were the ones played at Bumbershoot festival last year. Anyone who attended the show or heard the footage had the chance to review their new material. And oh boy, does it sound good!

Sonic Youth, initially comprising of guitarist /
vocalists Thurston
Moore and Lee
Ranaldo, guitarist / bassist / vocalist Kim
Gordon and drummer Richard Edson, were formed in New York City in 1981. A product
of the No-Wave music scene of the late 1970s, the group had their roots in abrasive,
experimental music, with Moore and Ranaldo having previously worked with the
experimental composer Glenn Branca. The band were joined in 1985 by drummer Steve
Shelley, and have now recorded 14 albums together, as well as many side and solo
projects. Their work has been consistently challenging and innovative, and they
are widely regarded as one of the most intriguing and influential bands of their
time.
