Click here for news archive. Moore + Parker + Prati CD March 8, 1999 This week end, I've picked up a new CD of Thurston Moore + Evan Parker + Walter Prati called "The Promise". It's directly imported from Italy under the label "Materiali Sonori" and has 7 musical tracks plus a multimedia track 'A path between creativity and reflexion'. The last one is a very creative track because you can compose your own piece of music based on the album sounds and record it. Below are the liner notes about this track (you will better understand what I'm trying to explain) : "Navigating notes: A path between creativity and reflexion is a chance to reinvent music with the help of our visual sense. In the two screens which make up the multimedia track several sound samples which belong to the audio tracks by Moore, Parker and Prati can be played again. Unlike music based on formal traditional structures (songs, standards, ballads, sonatas, concerts, lieder etc.) the oppurtunity to take this path is given by the greater freedom allowed to re-composing the music according to our own strictly personal taste. You can choose to use, or not, a different base for each screen where the commands Record, Play and Stop can also be found besides the sound tools for... creating a new musical world. In this new musical world let us not forget our unreserved commitment to wiping out the exploitation of child labour in any form and defending the dignity of all children: our future. Our Promise." Sonic Youth, initially comprising of guitarist /
vocalists Thurston
Moore and Lee
Ranaldo, guitarist / bassist / vocalist Kim
Gordon and drummer Richard Edson, were formed in New York City in 1981. A product
of the No-Wave music scene of the late 1970s, the group had their roots in abrasive,
experimental music, with Moore and Ranaldo having previously worked with the
experimental composer Glenn Branca. The band were joined in 1985 by drummer Steve
Shelley, and have now recorded 14 albums together, as well as many side and solo
projects. Their work has been consistently challenging and innovative, and they
are widely regarded as one of the most intriguing and influential bands of their
time.
