Click here for news archive. SY Play On Brigitte Fontaine Album August 19, 2000 Brigitte fontaine's new album is called "Kekeland". Kim Gordon appears on issue 197 of The Wire (July 2000) on Invisible Jukebox section, and she says: "We're playing on just three songs. On two of them, the melody was already there. But it's been really interesting. We said, we don't want to come over and just play, be a studio band. But there's so little time, they thought they had to have some things in place. So they had the melody and words and rhythm, so they made demos. We had to come up with things that would work with it, and build it up. And then that last thing [we were recording] was just words, so that was different."

Sonic Youth, initially comprising of guitarist /
vocalists Thurston
Moore and Lee
Ranaldo, guitarist / bassist / vocalist Kim
Gordon and drummer Richard Edson, were formed in New York City in 1981. A product
of the No-Wave music scene of the late 1970s, the group had their roots in abrasive,
experimental music, with Moore and Ranaldo having previously worked with the
experimental composer Glenn Branca. The band were joined in 1985 by drummer Steve
Shelley, and have now recorded 14 albums together, as well as many side and solo
projects. Their work has been consistently challenging and innovative, and they
are widely regarded as one of the most intriguing and influential bands of their
time.
