Click here for news archive. New Two Dollar Guitar Album Out Now January 23, 2000 'Weak Beats and Lame-ass Rhymes', Two Dollar Guitar's fourth release on Smells Like Records, should be available at your local record store TODAY. The record was recorded over the course of a year at the Sonic Youth Studio in New York; taking their time, the band has managed to create a smoothly polished and veritable Opus. Carla Bouzlich (of Geraldine Fibbers & Scarnella), Nels Cline (of Scarnella), Christina Rosenvinge, Tim Prudhomme (of fuck), Smokey Hormel (of Beck and Tom Wait's band), Janet Wygal, and Doug Easley all joined Tim Foljahn, Steve Shelley and Dave Motamed in the making of this wonderful record. To support the record the band will be hitting the road and driving all over the country from February 10 to March 10. Janet Wygal (of Splendora ) will be joining Tim and Steve for this long road trip. Check our web site or email us for more details on the tour and check out 'weak beats and lame-ass rhymes' when it arrives at your local record store (or you can mail order it from us for a very reasonable price). When the tour begins the band will have a very special limited edition tour cd for sale featuring material they recorded on New Years Eve. The EP is being put together in conjunction with Insound, one of our favorite musical ventures on the Internet. Check out their site (http://www.insound.com) and ours for more information.

Sonic Youth, initially comprising of guitarist /
vocalists Thurston
Moore and Lee
Ranaldo, guitarist / bassist / vocalist Kim
Gordon and drummer Richard Edson, were formed in New York City in 1981. A product
of the No-Wave music scene of the late 1970s, the group had their roots in abrasive,
experimental music, with Moore and Ranaldo having previously worked with the
experimental composer Glenn Branca. The band were joined in 1985 by drummer Steve
Shelley, and have now recorded 14 albums together, as well as many side and solo
projects. Their work has been consistently challenging and innovative, and they
are widely regarded as one of the most intriguing and influential bands of their
time.
